You never know what a place will be like when you first walk in the door. But BreaCan... it has just felt so welcoming and comfortable.

Family & Friends

When someone you love or care for is diagnosed with breast or a gynaecological cancer, it can be a very difficult and unsettling time. BreaCan provides information and support to partners, carers, family members, friends and colleagues through the Resource Centre and by linking them into other community services.

The BreaCan volunteers, having experienced cancer themselves or cared for someone who has, can sit with friends and family, listen to their concerns, share their experiences and offer practical and emotional support. Partners, family and friends are encouraged to visit the Resource Centre and access many of the books, DVDs and CDs that are available and deal with issues related to the support and care of a loved one or friend in need. BreaCan has a list of recommended resources that can be borrowed from the library focusing on partners and parenting which you can download here.

On occasion, BreaCan runs information sessions for partners and carers of women living with breast or a gynaecological cancer. These sessions are a great opportunity to meet others in a similiar situation and discuss and share practical ways of support and dealing with cancer. If you are interested in attending one of these sessions, please get in touch.

For further support and information for partners of women diagnosed with breast cancer visit, The National Breast and Ovarian Cancer’s BreastHealth website. They also provide a section for dealing with issues relating to children, click here.
