For Young Women
Young women living with breast or gynaecologcial cancer have specific concerns and needs. A cancer diagnosis is always a shock, but for young women it can be particularly devastating. They are least likely to know someone in the same situation and many report feeling socially isolated. Fertility and relationship issues may also be particularly relevant.
BreaCan offers young women an opportunity to access information and talk with trained volunteers, some of whom are at similar stages in their lives. BreaCan also ensures that several information sessions organised each year cover issues specific to young women.
Alongside the information sessions, BreaCan in collaboration with The Cancer Council Victoria and the Think Pink Foundation have produced a DVD and booklet focusing on young women and breast cancer. The DVD, entitled Young Women Talking, explores the issues affecting young women with breast cancer, as told by a group of young women, in their own words. You can watch the video below, or if you are living in Victoria and would like a free copy of the DVD and booklet please, get in touch or call us directly on 1300 781 500. For women living interstate you can contact your local Cancer Council to request a copy or you can also download a copy of the booklet here or from our publications page. The DVD and booklet were produced in 2006, but the issues and comments from the women remain as relevant today.
